If the Roku channel poster is your first contact that can make a viewer install your channel, your video content is one keeping your viewers on your channel, watching content - ads.

When you prepare, you must keep three major "factors" in mind.

Content quality.

I am referring here to the content of your videos.

It must be related to the channel topic - I know it might sound obvious, but I must point it out.

(If you build a channel about Internet Marketing - all your videos should be about Internet Marketing.)

It must be valid content - I am referring to the fact that the information your content is transmitting must be relevant.

Please don't try to trick your viewers - offer them what you promise in your channel description.

Video Quality and Format.

Both TV networks recommend using a minimum of HD-quality videos in mp4 format.

I recommend editing your videos in FHD (full high definition 1920X1080 pixels) and exporting an FHD and another HD (1280X720) version.

This way, when you export the video in HD, the quality will stay the same - you scale down a video so the quality will not be impacted.

And you can use both video "versions" in your tv channel setup. (I will show you in the following lesson how).

Make sure your video is not pixeled - and that the audio is clear.

Video Optimization and Hosting

It doesn't matter how good content you have if the playback is slow and the video will buffer. Viewers will click away.

If you use an up-to-date video editor, exported files should be optimized. Alternatively, you can use video optimization software - I will link some free options in the Tools and Resources section.

Use professional video hosting!

You need Direct Video Links.

Direct video links or RAW links.

These are links that lead directly to the video file. It is a requirement for both networks. We need to provide raw links because every TV network will use them for video playback in their video player, and in any video player, you need the video.

Live Streams are another more and more used video format on TV channels.

You can use a Live Feed with content in the feed or ULR when you stream content.

Or a Playlist Type of Live Stream.Usually, in a feed like this, you can play in a loop different content, then when you want to start a live transmission, the playlist content will stop, and your Live transmission will take over the feed. When you stop the Live transmission, the feed will go back to the "serve" again the playlist content.

As for quality and format, please apply to your feed content the same "care" as you do to your "normal" video content.

So, make sure you are looking for a provider that can offer playlist feeds with direct feed URL access.

Better Quality = More viewers and more hours of watched content

More videos = More viewers and hours of watched content - more Ads showed - more income generated.
